If Town can pick up some of those fans (if Comets do close) who have chosen Speedway over Rugby and can't afford both, then the money that Town lose from the Speedway could be replaced if they come back to the rugby.

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

Denham is shouting now that he is making a loss on 500 crowds but how much profit was he making when crowds were 1500+ then. He was pleading poverty then to get the rent reduced. The Comets need a new owner who wil work with their landlords (Town) for the benefit of both sets of supporters.
Dead right KT.
1000 extra supporters a meet at £10 each = £10,000 more revenue and most of it profit as most other costs would be fixed.

Personally, I'm not interested in Speedway but hate seeing any local team in financial trouble. Looking from the outside, it seems crowds are falling as Mr Denham doesn't seem as well liked or personable as Ian Thomas. Hopefully they'll survive and Town and speedway can work together a bit better.
