The apology in full here

This works for almost every public apology, very few of which are worth anything.
North Derbyshire Chargers - join the stampede

Raising money for Prostate Cancer UK - ran the Spire 10 mile in August and the Worksop Half Marathon in October - more to come in 2013

Clegg has given permission for this to be released as a charity single on iTunes.

He could not really do otherwise.

He could have said no. It appears to have been his suggestion that it be a charity single as opposed to money maker for The Poke.

If it's his suggestion then he's hardly likely to say no (sorry, pedantry, I must stop doing that :D ).

What I mean is, agreeing to its release as a charity single will hopefully take the sting out of this for him. It is likely to go viral - it has already been played and publicised on Radio 2 - and it is likely to make him look ridiculous in the eyes of many. Turning it into something positive is really the only thing he can do. Sort of "look at me, I'm a reasonable bloke, I can take a joke even when it's at my expense".

It's okay. I understand how livid you must be with the BBC right now.

I thought I recognised the technique, though. This is Alex Case, music producer, who has made such youtube favourites as Muslamic Ray Guns and Leveson: The Musical.
