You're thinking of (bassist) Chris Squire.

I like Neil Young's playing a lot: my guitar teacher is a big admirer of his., but he doesn't quite make the ten. I think Keef is brilliant but only within the context of the stones. Mayer has a nice playing style but lacks the back catalogue to really grip me: I can only think of one song of his. I like Walter Trout a well

How long have you been taking lessons? I'm self taught but I always think I've missed out not having expert tuition. I have found the following site useful

Some good lessons how to play popular songs on there.

If you are self-taught, it's a good idea to have a couple of sessons with a teacher, so they can look at what you're doing and adjust any errors in technique that may be holding you back or which could cause problems.

I have an hour a week, just had my fourth lesson. Really enjoying it. I use my son's SG, but if I get good enough I've got some cash put by for a black top telecaster.

SGs are nice. This was my last ebay purchase. Another thing I regret is not learning to play right-handed, makes finding guitars hard (and expensive).

my lad's SG is an epiphone. I really like it, but on the other hand I haven't had experience of many guitars. Tom, my teacher says its pretty good so I'll take his word for it.

I'm surprised no one has Chuck Berry - an inovator on the guitar if ever there was one. I'd agree with Ry Cooder, I'm not that up on pop guitarists, I admit. My favourite guitarist doesn't qualify because he's dead, but I'll name him anyway Django Reinhardt. Buddy Holly was quite good too, but he's dead as well :(
I do like Clapton, and Jeff Beck and Mark Knopfler. I wouldn't have thought Duane Eddy counted - didn't he play bass?
