I'm surprised no one has Chuck Berry - an inovator on the guitar if ever there was one. I'd agree with Ry Cooder, I'm not that up on pop guitarists, I admit. My favourite guitarist doesn't qualify because he's dead, but I'll name him anyway Django Reinhardt. Buddy Holly was quite good too, but he's dead as well :(
I do like Clapton, and Jeff Beck and Mark Knopfler. I wouldn't have thought Duane Eddy counted - didn't he play bass?

I think squire was and is a superbly gifted bassist: his work on Time And A Word was superb

Couldn't agree more, but not quite as good as Greg Lake.
