Um ... all the usual prog rock suspects. They're all classically trained, you know.

Pete Bardens
Tony Banks
Mark Kelly
are the three I would rate above the herd.

Jools Holland? Alan Price on "House of the Rising Sun" and the B side of "Bring it on Home to Me," "For Miss Caulker" is brilliant. I'd go along with Art Tatum - especially in the Goodman small group stuff. Of course in the boogie field there's Pete Johnson and Meade Lux Lewis. Nearly forgot Jerry Lee!

I'm not exactly a keyboardist but there's a few players with distinctive styles, and he is one of them. Worked very well with JJB's bass playing too.

That combination certainly made the distinctive Stranglers sound. Another keyboard player who really made the bands sound distinctive is Ray Manzarek.

Good shout. Similar to Ray Manzarek, not in style as such but in making keyboards quite prominent and distinctive.

A lot of people thought that the Stranglers had quite similar keyboard sound to the Doors

Point of pedantry, weren't these two pianists? There is a big difference between piano and keys.
