Barrow Raiders will be wearing their red and white away kit in the Championship 1 Grand Final against Doncaster on Sunday. The kit to be worn is determined by the RFL.
As a club we have no say in what colours we wear for any particular match as the RFL decide this. Many of our fans do have the replica red and white jerseys but I expect the vast majority of our following will stick with the clubs traditional first choice colours of blue and white. Either way I am certain that the Barrow fans will be prominent whatever colours they wear on the day”.

That's rubbish...we should be playing in blue and white. Getting through at the first attempt should mean we have home colours..I hope the BoD will talk to the RFL about this.

Ahead of the 1967 Challenge Cup Final at Wembley Barrow won the toss against Fev to gain the right to wear our normal strip. However, just days before the final there was a dispute and Barrow was forced to change from blue with a white V to white with a blue V.
If ever you get the chance to see one of these kits it is obvious that the supplier merely stitched a blue V onto a plain white shirt - it is obviously a rush job. Barrow received the kit just a day or so before the final!!
Interestingly the club had their main strip (blue with a white V) ready for the game but nobody seems to know what happened to it. Both kits had a special cup final badge on.

Just a bit of boring trivia to wake you all up in the morning LOL.

Isn't it the nature of the play-off structure?

The higher-placed team in the final league table is always the "home" team in each round.

This would also explain why we have to wear the away kit.

I'm surprised Directors/ex-Directors don't have a grasp of this simple concept. ;-)


BTW, The greatest day in Barrow RL history was winning the Challenge Cup at Wembley in 1955. Funnily enough, they happened to be wearing a RED shirt with a white V.

The RFL says;

In answer to your e-mail regarding home / away advantage:

League Competition Rules
B3:18

In each Match in each of the three Grand Finals Series, the Club which was highest placed in the league
concerned shall be deemed to have home ground advantage as regards colours, dressing room and otherwise.
