York City Knights are pleased to announce the signing of Hull FC prop Austin Bell. The 21 year old has been a key member of the Black and Whites Under 20’s pack for the past few seasons and will provide Head Coach Gary Thornton with another option in the front row. Bell has been described by Hull legend, and Under 20’s Coach, Lee Radford as “a very tough and aggressive ball carrier” and Thornton was delighted to be bringing him to the Knights saying,

“Austin is another victim of the defunct Superleague Under 20’s competition. He has been a permanent fixture in Hull FC’s Under 20’s pack this season, and is highly regarded by the Hull club. When I heard he was not being retained by Hull, I spoke to Lee Radford who has coached him all season and he recommended him highly. He’s a tough prop forward and I have always been impressed by him when I have seen him play in the Under 20’s competition. He’s a big lad, with a no nonsense approach to the game, in both attack and defence, and he has a terrific work ethic. He plays the game tough and can do long minutes on the pitch if required. He is similar to Jack Aldous, and we know what a big impression Jack has made this term, and I’m hoping Austin can have the same effect in 2013”.

Had we had quality established pack i would be quite happy with this signing but we haven't ,short of another hard runing front rower and a must is a experienced loose forward and another hard running second rower for me.

Another "small" prop, I know Aldous punches above hid weight but my Grandad always used to say "a good big un always beats a good small un", as Ala says we are short in the pack

King, Sullivan and Freer are big and experienced.

Aldous was POTY in his debut season, no reason why (the taller and heavier) Bell can't have the same impact.

Another Prop and very good Second Row on the way too...

If we could get Lee Paterson at Loose I'd say that pack looks pretty decent.

Agree & correct, would have liked 13 to be AL, but understand he doesn't want to travel.....

Alan Langer. Getting on a bit now but I'm sure he could still cut it at this level.

Would be good to have Patterson back, any news on the Knights been interested?

Can't agree Gav this is not a championship pack as it stands to lightweight no strength in depth, lose King and Sully who would you replace them with ?

I agree we need more power in the pack and perhaps players who can bust the odd tackle, not bottom of the table stuff.Jason Golden is a good start though.

Gav - think people are slightly worried by a lack of experience in the pack, wonder if Mike Burnett from
Hull FC could be an option?
