Opening paragraph about Jamie Thackray published this morning in The News & Star. I quote: "The granite grey sky is threatening a further downpour as Jamie Thackray pulls into the pot-holed car park at Derwent Park, before walking through the rusting front gates into Workington Town’s ground, rotting to bits after years of decay and decline, to join his team-mates for training." Bless him!
Other than that, the article is a nice piece about this most talented and charismatic player.

Good article, but it wouldn't have been the same if it started 'It was a beautiful sunny day when Jamie Thackray skipped into wonderful Derwent Park'.

I thought it was an odd opening to the piece, but it wouldn't be a news and star article without a bit of town bashing would it.

That opening paragraph is appalling, what is the point of it? The constant digs at how low a level Town are, how shoddy an outift etc are also unnecessary though not unsurprising from out friends at the N&S. Do they not realise the damage that kind of garbage can cause, if there was anyone considering going next season who was unsure then I`m sure once they read about the world war 1 like conditions they would be watching in they wont bother. Cheers N&S, once again you show just how much contempt you hold our club in.

Ammanda Little wrote the article, but it painted us in such a bad light I wouldn't be suprised if the Parton Plonker 'Choccy' wrote it........... absolutely diabolical the paper is a complete joke.

How can we put Thacks in such an awful position ? The poor soul , the UN should look into this immediately . Being forced into this purgatory . The article was an insult to the club .

Absolutely appalling writing. As dkw says, what impression does that give to fans who may consider going down to DP next season with a higher standard of rugby on offer.

How much better is this........"the ground may have seen better days but inside old Derwent Park there's a team on the up having gained promotion last season".

It still references that DP isn't the most salubrious, but its not all negative. AL could also have mentioned that old DP will be having £500k spent on it in preparation for next years World Cup games. The N&S have a duty IMO to promote those fixtures, whenever they can.

I know a ground just as bad that isnt getting a brass button spent on it. Jealousy is a terrible thing.

Why didn't she mention not just a team on the up but a stadium that with huge investment will look more than acceptable cosmetically , and will be presented to the world as figures like Minichiello line up on it in the WC , and link that to Thacks being back on the up ... Everything is positive here , it really is despite that literary diarrhoea.

There an absolute disgrace. Talking to a town player, who is a town player next year no matter what, and they turn a decent article into a slagging off of town. The whole town, sports wise, haven't had a great deal to shout about, comets possibly folding and reds stuck in mid table at the moment, so pushing and promoting the one real success in towns promotion should be a top priority for the local rag. But as usual they can't even manage that.

What the h**l is Amanda Little doing writing about Town in the first place? I can't ever remember her writing anything about Town she is/was more in to soccer. Maybe she is just a "ghost" writer for the usual suspects?
I remember when .............................

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

Her football articles are poor, and now this shambles. Typical News and Star really, no wonder sales are rapidly falling.
There's only John Walsh worth reading, shame he has so few pieces in there.

It was 5 a.m. this morning when I borrowed my dad's old oil can, took up my trusty rust removing brush and set off to Derwent Park in search of those infamous rusting front gates. Do you know, I must have stumbled my way round the entire complex - through the many pot holes - at least five times, and yet I still failed to find those gates. It's really frustrating ( because I know that that rusty player's entrance must exist, because I read it in the News and Star), so please Amanda Little get in touch and help me in my quest to find those gates and thus make the players entrance at Derwent Park rust free again.
If time allows, I may even be tempted to allow you to help me paint them a lovely granite grey - now that will look really nice!

The N & Star is a complete joke, the drival that they write infuriates me, so I decided ages ago to stop buying it, I have said on here before that we should also boycott the busineses that advertise in the paper as well, and let them know the reasons why.

:) Doubt it would be printed but did you send this to the letters page of the N&S assuming they have one ?
