The search for a tournament mascot for Rugby League World Cup 2013 (RLWC2013) is almost over – thanks to England coach Steve McNamara.
Earlier this year RLWC2013, in conjunction with host towns and cities, launched a competition for budding young artists to design the tournament’s official mascot.
Together with his children, Ben and Grace, the England coach has helped to short-list the final four entries.
“It was very difficult to choose,” said McNamara. “Obviously the kids have put a lot of thought and effort into it and they all deserve a huge thank you.”
RLWC2013 Marketing Manager Mark Foster said: “The Rugby League World Cup is Britain’s next major international sporting event and our eventual mascot competition winner will see their creation brought to life by a specially-recruited illustrator.
“Our mascot will play a key role in creating a fantastic atmosphere for the tournament – and our winning young designer will be joining us at Old Trafford for the final.”
The official RLWC2013 mascot will be revealed at the final of Rugby League’s Autumn International Series at Salford on Sunday November 11.
Before then, fans, families and friends have just two weeks to register for the best tournament tickets available.
A special pre-sales period begins on October 8 and full details are available online at rwlcw2013.com

Blue Peter recently ran the competition to design the mascot for the 2014 Commenwealth Games. I can't help think it was an opportunity missed.

Have actually seen the winning mascot?

Mascots are easily the most important part of each and every major tournament. Ever.
