Chargers Rugby League coach Lee Walters picked up the Coach of the Year at the Bolsover District Sports Awards on Friday night.
Lee has coached the under 15s to the top of their division in the Yorkshire League and has been instrumental in
helping to set the club up in its new base in Barlborough.
Chargers' co-founder Tim Fellows said, "Lee has done a fantastic job in recruiting and developing players for the club.
He has worked really hard to develop his technical coaching but as a club coach it is his philosophy to coaching that we appreciate at the club. He always makes sure that every player feels part of the team, whether they are experienced or new players. We are delighted that he has been recognised."
The Barlborough based club also picked up Schools Link and Stepping Stones awards.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lee is a top bloke and genuinely deserves this - he has been with this side as assistant and head coach since U12s and has gone through the tough times when they lost every game in 2010. He is an ex-player with Shirebrook in the BARLA days and has also helped us with the Masters team and the Open Age.
He now goes on to automatic nomination for the county award.
The awards ceremony included local Paralympians (boccia coach and a wheelchair basketball player) plus some very talented youngsters in football, kickboxing, ju-jitsu, basketball and athletics. I was surprised that there were no cricket clubs represented at all but it shows what a plethora of sports we have to compete against.
Chargers scoop some awards!
