CO-OPERATIVE CHAMPIONSHIP ONE GRAND FINAL HALF-TIME
BARROW RAIDERS 7 DONCASTER RLFC 4
BARROW Raiders were edging a tense Championship One Grand Final 7-4 after a great first half against Doncaster.
Barrow too an early lead as the ball was spread quickly to the right and Andy Ballad sent Chris Larkin in for 4-0.
But, aided by penalties and knock-on calls, the Dons struck back as Stewart Sanderson ran in from close range to level matters.
An Andy Ballard penalty from in front of the sticks made it 6-4 to Barrow on 26 minutes as the game became more ragged.
Both sides had tries disallowed for forward passes and there was some superb defence on display to stop either side’s loose forward, Dan Toal and Carl Hughes going over.
Barrow came close several times before the hooter, with Scott Kaighan kicking a drop-goal with the last play of the first half for 7-4.
Raiders boss Darren chose Lee Haney to start on the wing in place of Mike Backhouse, with loan forward Brad Brennan missing out with an ankle injury.
Jamie Butler and Ryan Duffy started in the props alongside hooker James Dandy, with Liam Finch, Ruairi McGoff and Andrew Dawson on the bench.
The Dons started Kyle Kesik in the half-backs in the absence of injured Paul Cooke, with captain Craig Robinson on the bench.
