Is this part of the issue regarding who is and isn't being dragged out from the seventies as a paedophile? Bad comic, dead DJ with lunatic tendencies - string em up. Rock star, or player of punk "classics" on the wireless- keep a lid on it still. While Jimmy Savile made his actions obvious by writing them in his autobiography in 1973, he never made it as obvious as marrying one of his victims. On Twitter there are people praying that a certain comic with a friend called Chalkie gets implicated in some way.

There's a lot in that, to be honest.

The defenders of Polanski - for example - make me deeply uncomfortable.

Who on earth is the dj playing punk classics then? If its just made up, its a bit random.

No I don't care if you're if you're into different bands

No cause for so much hatred, I'm just a different man

Pull off that cover, I will too, and learn to understand

With music deep inside we'll make world unity our plan

It's a reference to John Peel's first marriage.

Not remotely the same thing whatsoever and if the poster is trying to imply it is the same thing as Jimmy Saville then he is off beam.

The girl lied that she was old enough to marry (in Texas IIRC), she was 15 and as soon as he found out about it, the marriage was dissolved. Which is nothing like Saville, whatsoever.

She seems apologetic and yet did anyone ask her to apologise?

Esther is one of those people who seeks attention by proxy. The women's stories are horrible and yet the focus is on how Esther (neither a victim nor involved) sees the situation.

I don't disagree about her in general, but ITV approached her and asked for her reaction on their investigation on someone she knew quite well. She may be an attention seeker, but on this occasion it was someone else seeking her attention.

Assuming he consumated his marriage, yes.

I don't like to rely on single source material but this article has been doing to rounds lately as well.

One quote directly attributed to Peel:

Peel told the Guardian in 1975. "Girls," he said to the Sunday Correspondent in 1989, "used to queue up outside oral sex they were particularly keen on, I remember one of my regular customers, as it were, turned out to be 13, though she looked older."

I don't find that sort of thing acceptable at all but it was written by Julie Burchill, who is full of BS and IMO twisted. If that's what went on, then it deserves condemnation. I don't think there is a level of acceptability about it: its all wrong.

Yes, the Julie Burchill association did bother me a bit.
