The Central Coast Centurions made it three wins from three going into their final game a Test Match against the BARLA Great Emerging Lions at Sale RUC on Saturday before returning home. On a terrible night with continuous sweeping rain the Centurions showed some great ball handling skills during which they passed a century of points in their hat-trick of wins. The scoreline flattered Yorkshire although they battled on for the full eighty.
After conceding a brace of tries in the first quarter the ‘White Rose’ was always chasing the game although John Hattle (Stanley Rangers) at fullback, Joe Hudson (Oulton Raiders) and Vinny Cross (Shaw Cross Sharks) at props were outstanding. Yorkshire committed a series of basic errors and were never in contention following them. Following a first drive from Cross the forward was bundled into touch by a hungry Centurions pack and during a Yorkshire attack which took them to the tourists 20 metre line there was no half back at the play the ball after their hooker from Skiralugh Bradley Nelson Girtchen had left the field. Both huge mistakes cost the home side possession and as normally happens especially when playing Australian sides the Centurions made them pay big time.
The Centurions showed their handling skills to the fore when they swept the ball wide for centre Rhys Edwards to score his opening try of the tour and skipper Daniel Langbridge added the extras. A superb three man tackle by Yorkshire forced wide man Sean Boyton into touch via the corner flag to deny then a second try. Yorkshire then had a great chance that came to nothing and summed up their display as George Lawler (West Hull) pinged out a pass which went straight out of play. Todd Lewis the Centurions stand-off showed his class as sublimely went over after Cross had been forced off the field. Sheer guts and determination saw the Centurions only manage a further try in the half from Dylan Thorne, who reacted fastest to a grubber in the first move after Yorkshire had failed to have anyone at half back.
The second half belonged to the Centurions who scored twenty six unanswered points which gives great credit to their attacking and defensive skills. The ever impressive ‘Giant’ Myles Taveli, who hadn’t brought his supporting runners in one dangerous first half raid, presented a host of problems of problems for Yorkshire Following the withdrawal of loose forward Harry Bromwich (York Acorn) from a resulting arm injuries it got worse for the home side. The Centurions cut loose with tries from Jake O’Brian, Jay Kissik, Mitch Casson, Corey Drew and Jess Bogle with Kissik kicking three goals.
