Why would a new attempt in Bradford be different?

Yeah, because the two situations are exactly the same aren't they? What do Bradford have to do with this thread other than your obsession over everything Bradford?

I'd keep an eye on Doncaster if they can build bridges with the amateur clubs in the area, I've heard that the board of Doncaster Rovers want to take the club over along with all the other sporting bodies that use the Keepmoat to form one sporting club.

Would that be a good thing for Doncaster RL?

I'm telling you that Bradford are having a 2nd go at SL, whereas the OP didn't think Sheffield deserved one. If it's Ok for Bradford to have a 2nd go, why should it not be ok for Sheffield if they submit a good application.

It's you who are obsessing and very very touchy if anyone mentions your beloved Bradford in any way. I was not disparaging them here at all. I was just pointing out the inconsistencies between it being ok for the Bulls to have a second go after failure but not, according to the poster, ok for Sheffield.

Danny is a Barnsley lad Phil as you know- Came to the game through Hoyland and then on to Siddal and Halifax. He did a good job of coaching King Cross U16s the other year as well

No, but they have half a dozen south eastern born lads in Superleague now. Sheffield have produces none after nearly 30 years existence.

Love Sheffield Eagles but how are they viable for SL when they produce no pro players and have few fans?

I'd have thought Laughton, Aston and Darryl Powell were all pretty good evidence of Sheffield producing a bit of class. Who knows what they could have done if they'd been allowed to continue instead of being shat on. From the ruins they've built a very good side.
If they had a decent stadium who knows what sort of crowds they'd get. Bramhall Lane is too big, Don Valley is ###### for RL. I know I've said it before but Millmoor is standing empty and not a million miles from where they play now.
They scored possibly the best try of the season in any league last Sunday and like Fev, Leigh and Fax deserve a chance.
That's the problem though with this stiupid franchise system. All four can't have a chance and no team can stay at the top indefinitely until the RFL deigns to give them a licence.
P&R: two ten team leagues:. one fully pro, one hybrid - (some full time some part time.) So the leap to Super League is not so daunting.

If we are talking about the possibility of Sheffield in SL, I think Barnsley is close enough to Sheffield to be "in their backyard".

It would be a very good thing for rugby league, The Dons have really pushed on over the last two seasons and now have just about every high school playing the sport in the district, the down fall for local expansion will be the lack of people to administrate a new club, I've documents that include 26 teams in a Doncaster & District cup draw, so the district with helpers could sustain a 100% increase in amateur clubs.

It has been reported on here that Balby High School have a good under 16's team and from Doncaster town centre to Balby and beyond all the way to Bolton-on-Dearne (Dearne Valley Bulldogs) there are no other amateur clubs, thats a massive populated area with towns and villages very close together, I know the Dons are trying very hard to either get a club up and running or directing the lads to the 3 clubs already in Doncaster.

Sheffield have been out of SL since 2000. Bulls have had financial problems in 2012 but have not been out of the top flight.

If you think these 2 situations are the same then I suggest you have a reality check. You shoe-horned the bulls into a thread about Sheffield based on nothing other than personal obsession.

But to get back to the point, its a shame they don't get bigger crowds as they are a very good side to watch and a key area IMO.

I'd be surprised if we could make any significant inroads there though, so perhaps they might be better biding their time for another year or so and aim for some modest improvement.

As far as can see your the first person on this thread to mention Bradford. My point is that as far as I can see there is no evidence of any change of circumstances at Sheffield which would now make them a viable SL club.
And that is not decrying their right to be one.

Carch 22. They dont get bigger crowds because they declared that they didnt want to go up -and even if they did there is no definite promotion which puts people off going to regular games because they are meaningless once youve ticked a box. Its then down to the panel of experts to choose. This really puts off your general man on the street.

If Sheffield do declare interest crowds might pick up because if they did get over 2500 gates theyd be a shoe-in - because of them being a semi expansion city club. Unfortunately fans of town clubs in NL 1 are disadvantaged in this respect.

I would love to see the Eagles in SL anyway

Whether or not their circumstances are now appropriate for them to be admitted to SL would be determined by the requisite authorities on receipt of their application.

A poster on here stated that Sheffield failed once in SL, why should they be given a second chance.

I did mention Bradford in that they were given a second chance at SL, so why could Sheffield not also get that right.

Now that I come to think about it. This present Sheffield is a completely new club started after the first Sheffield club were merged with the Giants. I think they should be given a chance to apply for SL on their own merits, separate from the performamnce of the old Eagles in just the same way that the new Bulls are in SL on their own merits having left the problems of the old Bulls behind them.
