I know there is another thread about Kevin Sinfield but I think this deserves its own. Claire Balding has just stated on national tv that Kevin Sinfield is the most impressive sportsman she has ever seen.

For those words to be uttered by a BBC reporter is one thing, but for someone who, just a few months ago, anchored the BBC coverage of the Olympic Games with all the incredible athletes that she met there and watched, and having been involved in sport and sports reporting for most of her life, that is, indeed, an amazing comment and one that begs the question, why is Rugby League so marginalised in this country when we are producing some of the best athletes in the world?

Unfortunately Claire needs to say it in the middle of program where she is preaching to the unconverted.

She is a really great advocate for the game, she is a real breath of fresh air at the BBC, but, and its a big but, until she is allowed to express her opinions during other coverage it doesn't account for too much.

That said, she is at least chipping away from within.

She got at least two gratuitous mentions of rugby league into the Paralympics.

She also tweeted this - and about a dozen similar - to about 300,000 people last night

Kevin Sinfield gets kneed in the groin, can barely move then scores a try for Leeds three mins later to equalise. 6 pts all. #ballsofsteel

Missed those, so well done. That is exactly where we need her making comment.

It was at the end of the Grand Final highlights on BBC2 this afternoon. She was on the pitch at the end of the game talking to the camera when Kevin Sinfield appeared behind her and that is when she said it. She then dragged him over for an interview.
