The right don't like Cameron and Osborne because he went in to Coalition with the Lib Dems, thus thwarting the ambitions of the right. So the right wing media and MPs seek every opportunity (and there are many) to have a go. That is why they applied so much pressure over Mitchell, to have a go at Cameron and co and to get rid of probably the only whip strong enough to bring the right into line in Parliament,
The left (ie Miliband etc) don't like Cameron and Osborne because he went in to Coalition with the Lib Dems, thus thwarting the ambitions of the left to be in Govt. So the left wing media and MPs seek every opportunity (and there are many) to have a go. That is why they applied so much pressure over Mitchell, to have a go at Cameron and co and to get rid of probably the only whip strong enough to bring the right into line in Parliament, thus spiking Laboursguns empty water pistols.
The centre don't like Cameron and Osborne because he went in to Coalition with the Lib Dems, thus thwarting the ambitions of most Lib Dems never to be in power and never to be accountable for their policies. So the Liberal media and MPs seek every opportunity ( and there are many) to have a go. That is why they applied so much pressure over Mitchell, to have a go at Cameron and co and to get rid of probably the only whip strong enough to bring the right into line in Parliament, this strengthening the coalition and exposing the Lib Dems as a very limited talent pool
As far as Mitchell is concerned, in the immediate aftermath of the Hillsborough confirmation of police cover up and large- scale alteration and fabrication of police statements, suddenly it seems we CAN believe what the police say. Clearly the Police trade union had a big axe to grind which is why they got involved when really they had a much bigger problem to work on, that of widespread and institutionalised lying, paid leaking to the media (Leveson) and evidence fabrication by their members.
Personally, I think Mitchell should have stayed and done his job, but of course, no politician would survive long by exposing the fact that our police are clearly not wonderful and do lie on a regular basis.

You'll say anything to defend the Tories won't you John? This government are like King Midas in reverse, everything they touch turns to sh it. Cameron clearly doesn't really know what he's saying or doing half the time. All he does is seize on a convenient sound-bite - like he did at PMQ's on Wednesday over energy. After all he is an ex PR man. He, Osbourne, Gove, Lansley, and Hunt are IMO totally useless. If we have to have the Tories for the next 2 1/2 years lets have Hague back. At least he looks as though he knows what he's doing. The right don't like Cameron and Osborne because he went in to Coalition with the Lib Dems, thus thwarting the ambitions of the right. yes, someone has to do it and they need al the help they can get, especially as the right wing press are against them and the left wing press are against them. . If there was any effective opposition they too would be against them too, but as there isn't we'll have to let the BBC continue in that role.
Suffice it to say, though, that if you want Hague back, it means that deep down you are admitting that Cameron and Osborne are doing a good job.

They're doing what the Tories always do - looking after their own - unfortunately for the rest of us that's not what it said on the tin. Cameron should have walked the last election. A tired unpopular government, a recession, he should have had a landslide, that he didn't is either because people really don't trust him or they don't trust the Tories. And after what they promised on the NHS and what they are delivering who can blame them? IMO in 2010 the electorate didn't want Brown, but they didn't want Cameron either. That's why we got what we've got now.yes, someone has to do it and they need al the help they can get, especially as the right wing press are against them and the left wing press are against them. . People wanted change and automatically thought the Conservatives would offer it. Hopefully Labour will get back in and finish what they started to get the country back on track.

They had a chance, a massive chance. There seems to be a self destruct button for most administrations once they get in power.

What I never understand in situations like this with armys of special advisors trying to "control the story" why not shove him in standard for a couple of hours and tweet the hell out of it and use it against the "them and us" crowd, for a couple of hours of "discomfort" the PR and spin would have seen out the weekend in a very positive light!

And we don't join the dots that the story was passed by the Met straight to News International.

Like other, similar cock-ups of this type that this lot have made it shows a lack of judgement and a detachment from reality. What worries me if they can get such relatively trivial things wrong how can we trust them with the big decisions?

To be fair after the renting shenanigans story from last week the "this lot" label can be rolled out far and wide, they've learned nothing from the humiliations of 2009, strikes me the whole place is a void of common sense and reason.Like other, similar cock-ups of this type that this lot have made it shows a lack of judgement and a detachment from reality. Surely it would be simpler to employ Alistair Campbell. End of problemsWhat I never understand in situations like this with armys of special advisors trying to "control the story" why not shove him in standard for a couple of hours and tweet the hell out of it and use it against the "them and us" crowd, for a couple of hours of "discomfort" the PR and spin would have seen out the weekend in a very positive light!

Perhaps if all and sundry are criticising the current government then just maybe they are poor at governing. Just a thought.yes, someone has to do it and they need al the help they can get, especially as the right wing press are against them and the left wing press are against them. .
