Metaphorically speaking, of course. The reality is that playing toilet venues in front of 50 people, hassling promotors for your money and sleeping in a transit-van with five other people is... actually... pretty good fun too.

aye

just the look of the thing grips me-the lead singer's headband, riding onto the stage on choppers, all the faux majesty, the girl hanging from whatever it was-and that's before they even start playing.
Kill me now.

And 'Sounds'.

I had every issue of Sounds from 1986 until it closed in about 1991? I had them until I moved house 5 years ago but threw them out for some reason. So chances are I had your pic in it.
Funny old game.

We played at Manchester Poly one night and the last track the DJ played before we went on was 'Living on a Prayer' by Bon Jovi. We found it so deliciously incongruous with our brand of right-on working class angst (© City Life Magazine) that we kept it as our 'intro music' for a further four years!

The interview actually carried Morrissey's pic - we put him on the sleeve of our second single as a publicity stunt. It worked!

I'm fairly broad in my musical tastes, but 'happy clappy' modern Christian songs, usurping a long tradition of truly beautiful music, now that boils my pee.

Speaking of Christian songs, anybody remember the woeful Stryper?

most music after about 1971.

That explains oh so much. Somehow I suspect you are not including Rory Gallagher in the bracket.

No I'm not
Where have you got that from?
I just don't know what it means or what it sounds like: the term gets bandied around a lot but doesn't seem to mean anything
