Members of the Parliamentary Rugby League Group will have the opportunity to get their hands on the Rugby League World Cup on 30th and 31st October as it visits the Palace of Westminster.
As part of the visit, tournament general manager Sally Bolton will present to the Parliamentary Group to discuss preparations for what is the first major world sports event to be held in the UK after the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The trophy began its trip at the game’s birthplace at the George Hotel in Huddersfield before touring the UK before visiting Parliament and concluding its journey at Old Trafford on 30th November at a special year-to-the-final event.
Group Chairman, Leeds North West MP Greg Mulholland welcomed the announcement saying “as fans of the sport, we in the Parliamentary Rugby League Group are as excited as anyone else to have the opportunity to see and hold the trophy. As the first major international tournament in the UK after the 2012 Olympics, the Rugby League World Cup 2013 represents an outstanding opportunity for the UK to showcase its continued excellence in delivering sporting events as well as cement the ‘golden decade of sport’.
"I will be encouraging all my colleagues in Westminster to take the chance to have their picture taken with the trophy and – more importantly – come and listen to the RLWC2013 team talk about how things are progressing for what is such an important world sporting event.”
