I like that kit. Much more vibrant than the dour one they have now.

York City Knights are set to host their very own 'Heritage round' when they take on Hunslet Hawks on Sunday 18th August, as they take to the field in the iconic colours that the newly inducted hall of famers wore with distinction for York RL over the years...

I didn't know Tim Smith, Hudson Smith, Lee Smith, Chris Smith, Jason Smith, Aaron Smith, Tony Smith, Tony Smith, Mark Smith, Michael Smith, Matty Smith and Craig Smith were in the York City Knights Hall of Fame.

OK joking aside  , nice strip ,

No RL team I can recall play in a classic Black & Yellow Hoops, With Salford Owner annoucing they are dropping the ' City Reds ' Tag and going back to their roots as the Red Devils . Any chance  York would follow by example and lose the ' City Knights'  and rediscover their classic colours for good ?

Lee Jackson ?

January 1989.

Rugby League football was staged for the first time at Bootham Crescent. York RLFC entertained Leeds and the attendance was 11,347. For the record Leeds won 28-9.

11,347 !!

Were the original shirts such a tight hoops design?

They were when four of the Hall of Famers played.

York City Knights is a great brand with huge potential in my humble opinion, but I would love the club to revert back to traditional York RL colours for our future away shirts now that most of the bad feeling surrounding the dark days of the Wasps has subsided since 10 years ago.

Hopefully we might see 11,347 fans flock to see us when we play at Bootham Crescent next year though...? ;)

York played in this shirt from 1865 until 1962 when they changed to Black Shirts with 2 amber V's (same design as Australia) they played in this narrow hooped shirt again in 1976/77 season. The inductees of the hall of fame Norman Fender, Edgar Dawson, Baz Watts, Willie Hargreaves, Vic Yorke, Gary Smith all played in this shirt. Geoff Pryce played in the wider black and amber hoops.

Going off topic a little here, but what's the future for Bootham Crescent? I was up there watching Southend United in April and it's already in my top ten of Football League grounds, but I understand York City FC are moving?

Hull FC have another armed forces camouflage shirt this year.

I saw it. Looked away and it was gone.

Bootham Crescent is to be demolished and York City will be moving to Monks Cross to share with the Knights at a new Stadium to be built on the site of the current Huntington Stadium.

If Bootham Crescent is in your top 10 Football grounds you can't have been to many !!!!
