Thatto Heath 38 v 6 Leigh Miners

Leigh Miners season came to a disappointing end yesterday afternoon with a heavy first round playoff defeat against champions Thatto Heath Crusaders, it was certainly not the kind of performance Miners wanted to end their campaign with after the season they have had but they can have no complaints with the final score line of 38-6 after being well beaten by a Thatto side who look determined to keep hold of their title. With the home side playing with the wind in the first half they made sure they made the most of it, dominating field position and keeping Miners on the back foot in both attack and defence. Thatto scored their first try after about ten minutes when their loose forward broke through the Miners defence to score a good individual try to give the score 6-0. Four more first half tries followed as Thatto went through some poor Miners defending to score and give them a comfortable 28-0 half time advantage.

Miners found themselves in much better field position in the second half and had a good spell of possession during the third quarter on the Thatto line but with Miners lacking that cutting edge with ball in hand Thatto easily sniffed out what was thrown at them. The home side scored their sixth try of the match just past the hour mark to make the score 34-0 that was followed by a consolation interception try from Jimmy Muir, Jonny Youds converting to give the score 34-6. Thatto finished the scoring with five minutes remaining with a try in the right corner to give them a 38-6 victory and put them into the Elimination Playoff Semi Final next weekend away at Myton Warriors.
