McAlpine is £185,000 richer this morning anyway.

That's just the start of it, apparently. His lawyers have a list of everyone who Tweeted or re-Tweeted the allegation, and they are going after them.

His lawyer said "we are going to take action against a lot of people. We have been watching people who have been taking down what they put on Twitter".

Just spotted on Twitter:

@Lord McAlpine, did you consider giving that £185K of public money to the victims of child abuse? No, I'm sure you need it more...

Quite.

Dave Lee Travis arrested.

As far as I can make out, DLT has been accused of being a general perv or sex pest. Its worthy of arrest and its nothing to be taken lightly.

But many people are saying 'I never knew he was a paedo' etc. Mud sticks and all that.

Now you are just being silly.

This just in. The BBC buys 28% of the Guardians daily print run.

Don't be silly.

Between April 2010 and February 2011 the BBC bought 60,000 copies of the Guardian (FoI requests are fun), a newspaper which sells 220,000 copies a day. Or about 70million copies a year. Therefore we can work out that the BBC buys about 1 in every thousand Guardians.

In case you think that's a disproportionate amount because it's an institution stuffed with pinko commies, the BBC in the same period also bought 46,000 copies of the Mail, 49,000 copies of the Telegraph, 25,000 copies of the Express, 51,000 copies of the Times and 43,000 copies of the Sun.

Based on newspaper purchases therefore, the BBC is a cesspit of howling right wing lunatics.

Here's the source. Complete with a typically bonkers Guido write up that bears no relation to the actual facts:

Mark Clattenburg is another who was wrongly accused, it seems.

The FA has issued a statement about its investigation.

Quite.

Would be a decent gesture under the circumstances. That said, these compensation payouts are still controversial, especially against other payouts to seriously injured soldiers and others .
