And that's when they are trying to play running rugby. God only knows how bad it was when they weren't.

From that whole article that's the single point you noticed?
Even that's wildly out of context, still never let that get in the way of a jibe.

I noticed the bit about a prop who's good enough to play for his country but can't pass the ball.

I think you'll find that was both props :P

it mentions that England kick every 33 secs, and this is the highest rate of other top teams. could it be possible that other teams kick around every 43 secs? maybe. could it be argued that a RL team complete a set in 45 secs, and then kick? this would show a fairly even amount of kicking in both games wouldn't it?

Does the average include the time the ball is out of play or just real pkaying time?

The stat I'm kern to know is a comparison of the average time taken to recycle the ball once a player is on the floor compared to the equivalent in RL. I say this as this is really the only thing that really distinguishes the two sports ( you could have lineouts with a ptb and it would still be RL). I'm guessing on average it is quicker in RL which is why we are seen as a faster game (and still survive) - however we need to monitor RU's development in this area because if they can somehow speed up the ruck recycle problem then it could potentially be a more interesting alternative than a ptb - that would then be a major step to clear a way for reuniting the two codes.

I think you are literally the only person left who thinks that 'reuniting' two distinct games is in any way desirable.
Cheer up, RL is actually rather good

This discussion should be on the cross-code forum, not on the Rugby League forum.

I would assume it is the amount of time the team in question has possession of the ball in play. RU has around 55 - 60 kicks a game on average.

Also ripe for 'reuniting':

Hockey, Ice-hockey, Shinty and Hurling
Table Tennis, Tennis and Badminton
Basketball and Netball
Snooker, Pool and Billiards
Darts and Archery
Formula one and Stock Cars
Football and Diving
