It didnt because they didnt buy success they have a system where everybody goes beyond the expected. Melbourne have never gone out and bought a star and players either come through the Melbourne system like Slater, Widdop, Smith and Cronk have done or are not wanted elsewhere like Jason Ryles, Ryan Hinchliffe etc. Its rare a former Storm player is as good as when he was at the Storm. Probably only Inglis has kept his standards up while others just are not that good compared to their days at the Storm. Melbourne have a structure and culture where you dont accept winning is enough. You have to push and push and keep improving. For example while the rest of the NRL take holidays Craig Bellamy and other Storm Officials have been around Europe learning about different winning formulas at teams from Formula 1 to Soccer to Rugby Union. http://www.news.com....j-1226509789724 Bellamy says " You can win a game, win a premiership, but you can never really be satisfied. Because the moment you stand still, someone passes you.". And its not just the coaching staff. Ever wondered why Cooper Cronk is one of the games best if not the best Kickers? Its because again in typical Storm fashion he looks to work and improve himself.

Whilst other NRL players are on holiday Cronk has been with the Brisbane Lions in Nevada at a special High altitude Sports resort. Cronk has payed for the 2 week training himself! http://www.dailytele...from=public_rss Maybe its because Melbourne push themselves so hard and dont just except winning a Grand Final is enough. People instead of moaning or bitching about Melbourne should look behind the real reason why they are so successful. Money helps but you cant buy a trophy you also need plenty of other things to do it especially in a comp as hard as the NRL.

It was two and a half years ago and I never read that in the press over here.I did read that Hetherington said we were beaten on the night the result stands
but you and I weve been through that and this is not our fate.

Since when is there a salary cap in the world club challenge anyway? Surely this is the one trophy they should keep?

It's irrelevant as the two competitions don't have equal salary caps

As an aside, that's an interesting point when everyone says that the SL club have all the advantages for the WCC

When you are in an area where another sport dominates (AFL), the team has to achieve higher results than are targeted to maintain a credible profile, that's why Storm push themselves harder than anyone else.

(& Until Salford start winning trophies again why they will struggle for support in the shadow of United & City - Swinton too)
