I know his accent isn't to the taste of everyone on this forum, but next week, Series 4 of 'Mark Steel's in Town' starts, with a show from Whitehaven.
The programme's usually quite funny, and he does some research about unusual aspects of the town where he's broadcasting from.

He mentioned Barry Mac being the first man in England to be tazered by the cops(or whatever it was) when he was doing it from Wigan.

" ... Mark performs from the Rosehill Theatre in Whitehaven, Cumbria, where he talks about surrealist pirates, rum butter and the link between rugby and nuclear power."
But will he mention Jam?

He was in Wigan last year and a mate of mine had the pleasure of showing him around town, he was impressed with the amount of research he had already done on Wigan, the reason he was there for research, he also liked a good pint of real ale and picked up the tab. John reckoned he was a top bloke.

and how was he as a guest?
Otley was the last date on his tour so the venue booked him in here. When they told him there was excess demand he said he'd do an extra night he cancelled us and stayed with a mate in Bradford
(and of course celeb guest behaviour isnt for telling on here anyway - what do you think I am,Phil, Twitter?)
