You would think since we had a sponsor for super league and then kicked them out, that we had a better one lined up. Surely?

Negotiations with a number of blue chip companies are ongoing. An announcement is expected soon.

TBH not sure what else they can really say?? They can't exactly name names at the negotiating stage. Could be bluff, but for now we can only hope its not.

I'd sponsor SL for a tenner a year and have a car sticker to that effect in the back windows of both my vehicles for 12 months.

We could have a Mushy car spotting thread.
As it's a sport, I would continue to watch it even without sponsors!
Crazy me.

That joke is so 10 months ago.

There will be a sponsor announced at some time however my guess is that it will be a small deal dressed up as a big one to save face.

This is a serious issue RL is fast becoming a non trendy sport for large corporations to sponsor, as a game we have huge image problems something that 10 years ago showed signs of going away.

Why? I don't understand it at all. Seeing as Gillette sponsor all Internationals in the UK, why can't the RFL convince them to sponsor the top domestic comp?

Can somebody actually point out to me the time when RL was trendy amongst large corporations? Or is it more selective memory problems?

Why don't we just wait for an announcement rather than slating any deal that might have been made already...?

Companies are not going to sponsor the game when all they will receive is negative comments on social media from the fans! We should embrace that we are a working class sport and approach relevant brands like Selco, Wickes etc

Yes but ATEOTD who gives a monkeys who or what type of people the company are comprised of or aiming at as long as they back the game?

Many RL fans are unlikely to use a builders merchants after all.

Quote from Proctor and Gamble marketing manager at lunch in Paris prior to France v England match. We have inherited this sponsorship from Gillette and it has a limited value for us however we will run with it at a low cost for the time being:(2004 Gillette sponsorship £ 400K + a similar amount on promotion2012 Gillette sponsorship i would guess £ 25/50K max:(CM

Would you rather them say "well we wanted someone else, but at least we've got something."?

When was it trendy?

Basically you've just had a rant for the sake of a rant. Completely unjustified in any of your criticism here.

That bit renders your whole post redundant.

Oh and Wellsy, plenty of RL fans (and semi-pro players) use builders merchants.

You seem to be at the heart of a lot of these type of decisions. Why don't you use the opportunity to tell them why they should be scaling things up, not down? I know next time I'm sharing a pasty with the chairman of Barclays, that's what I'll do.
