Hi There,

I just arrived back earlier on this week from Toronto having attended the final of the CFL (Grey Cup) and yet again (I went 5 years ago) it was a lesson on how to showcase your sport at the highest level.

To me the CFL is very similar to SL (Although the crowds are much higher overall in the CFL) one thing that struck me was the amount of work that goes into each final with a full team working for a year + on making sure that the host city is right behind the event (With prices for everyone) the interaction with the sponsors at the various events leading up to the final was incredible, on the day of the match they hosted an indoor event (Similar to wembley arena) where over 8000 fans took part.

One could drive a NISSAN 4 x 4 car on a simulator

Play poker with the stars of TV,s poker stars

Log sawing competitions sponsored by DE WALT (The canadians are pretty good at this:)

Photograph with the grey cup sponsored by SONY and so it went on .

One thing that also seems to work is switching the host city every year this is something that i seriously think SL should look at ie Finals in London/Cardiff/Edinburgh/Dublin and Paris all announced in a 4/5 year cycle which gives fans plenty of time,SL badly needs something different to get the momentum back on the road and i think this could be it:)

And yet the crowd was 53k which is about 20k less than RL gets to its two finals annually in London & Manchester.

What an idiot post that was all the stadium holds, the average crowd in in the CFL is around 28000 only something SL can dream off.It seems that most on here have their heads right up their a--e, right now RL is going down the toilet in the UK and most on this forum think things are rosy.GET REALCM

CFL has its own problems and only someone with their head in the sand would fail to recognise it.

Why do you believe there was 53k in the stadium? Bryan Adams told me it was more like 41. ASK ANYONE MAN; ITS TRUE.

There is a genuinely interesting article comparing the CFL to Rugby League in this month's Forty-20 magazine which is more detailed than the post on here, as you would expect. There are a lot of parallels between the CFL and RL in this country which I had no idea about. While there is certainly a lot we could learn from them I end up getting the impression that sport for sport and country for country, we are - or at least Super League is - currently in a better state than the CFL.

To quote the article...

''The stories that came out of Las Vegas Posse, for example, had frightening echoes of the Crusaders farce. Their owners lost over $2m in the first four months as home support shrank from 12000 to 1000. Having lost their first 14 games Shreveport Pirates needed to sell 15000 season tickets to survive but managed to move just 2000 and folded. All but Baltmore suffered financial meltdown......Even Ottawa Rough Riders, a staple of Canadian Football for 80 years, folded."

So as we can see, CFL clearly has no problems, - unlike RL which is heading down the toilet if our mate Billy is to be believed.

You are 15 years out of date with this. The CFL tried to expand to the USA in the mid-90,s it failed, apart from Balitimore which did quite well and was re-located to Monteal after the world league finished.Ottawa are coming back in 2014 in a new state of the art stadium,i suggest you log onto the CFl site www.cfl.ca and look at the crowd figures for the season (and every match was LIVE on TV)Your quote is well past its sell by date and does not bear any reality to what the commissioner Marc Cohen and his team have managed to achieve over the last 5/6 years in Canada where the grey cup final is without doubt the major national event (Even bigger than the stanley cup)No-one seems to be bothered to comment on the main part of my original post which just shows that this forum is fast becoming one just occupied by fanatics who believe that everything in the RL garden in the UK is nothing but rosy:(CM
