I've not seen it mentioned but I think it was in the Daily Mail that a columnist had a bit of a go at the RLWC. Basically made out like nobody knows about it just one month ahead of the tournament and then unfairly compared this to the Union one.

Hmm... now how would the average chap on the Clapham omnibus know about the RWC? Reading a newspaper, perhaps?

So this Daily Wail hack was basically writing about how little coverage he and his peers have managed to give an international sporting event. Er, well done?

But we are getting on with it. When you say you don't hear Netball groaning and moaning, who do you mean? I haven't heard Rugby League groan and moan.

Well in that case I have misunderstood various comments in various forums moaning about coverage.   Pleased to be corrected that all is OK.

I am going to sit down with my diary in front of the computer on Saturday and book some tickets for World Cup games.

Can anyone point me in the way of any discount sites/codes that I can still use??

100days

or

gtl

these are codes that give 50% off at the moment.

my point is that people complaining on a forum is not 'Rugby League'. It is why I asked what you meant by Rugby League and Netball.

Have you been on Netball forums?

Maybe Netball fans feel that their sport gets the column inches and coverage it deserves - I could easily have missed it, but I don;t see many Basketball journalists ripping into Netball in the national media!

aaaah well then maybe I should have been more specific in my language if I wasn't, I should have written Rugby League community. That is the Rugby League community I come into contact with which is by no means all and sundry for sure is quite limited compared to some but does include that of my own experience which is:  what I read in forums, fans I talk to at games or elsewhere, ex and current players I sometimes talk too, administrators and officials I sometimes talk, as well as CEO or ex CEO, etc.....

You are right I have not been on Netball forums, I based that on 2nd hand information, i.e. my wife whom is a keen Netball fan, ex player, and involved in the sport to a  limited extent nowadays. So you are correct in your assumption.

Oh to add... by the term forums I didn't mean online forums I meant the word as in grouping of persons, all be it that could be a group of two or often more.  Yep, I know my written word can be quite loose and I need to be more specific and no doubt succinct - it has always been a failing of mine.

Hey, I don't disagree that as a community we are generally very negative, but I don't agree that that comes from the people in charge - in fact they often get lambasted for the amount of positive spin!

The fans are a big issue. Living out of the 'heartlands' it is actually refreshing watching games and talking about it with people who have no major issues with the game. They just watch it and discuss it for what it is, a bloody entertaining and tough sport!

I also get a bit jealous when I see people enjoying their sport without massive chips on their shoulders, and that includes RU (at international level). I live in Edinburgh, and the atmosphere round the place in the build up to Scotland games is unbelievable, despite the fact they are dire, and the games are usually rubbish! The pubs are always packed, loads of people are watching the games, including people who aren;t interested in sport.

In our game, so called fans just complain about the international game (and club game tbh!) and use any old excuse to not bother watching!

Depressing really.

I am in agreement with you and accept that our administrators and "officials" are in the main positive, certainly when I hear them in the media, or in forums I've attended and in 1-1 conversations. . Plus I do sometimes allow myself to get dragged down into the negativity and not looking at the positives of which their is many.

So yep I was lazy in my use of words, no doubt.

oh and to add.... I feel very strongly that our lack of historic support of the international game is one of the fundamental issues we need to grapple with more than anything else.  It is what enables RU from the cash, exposure and hence sponsorship/commercial benefits that flow to fully support the strategic decisions and directions it sets.

Interesting tweet from Glamorgan cricket
@GlamCricket: Get your hands on @RLWC2013 trophy @SWALECstadium tomorrow for #engvAus - special ticket offer for all ODI attendees
They've used the trophy well IMO, it's iconic

Predictions for the future -
Crusaders RL to get a franchise for 2012 onwards -WRONG
Widnes Vikings also to get a franchise - RIGHT
Crusaders RL to do the double over Widnes and finish five places ahead of them -WRONG
Widnes Vikings NOT to dominate rugby league in years to come! STILL TO COME

Things like this are genuinely great initiatives and deserve to be successful.

Targeting sports fans at an England v Australia event in Cardiff is genius. I hope it gets the results that it deserves.

It's due to be pretty reasonable weather in Cardiff tomorrow, which is good news! Cracking idea though. Has anything else appeared in South Wales about the competition yet?

I got a text from Orange about the game...

They have done a lot to make the World Cup trophy something special and recognisable. It is a fantastic trophy and one we should promote, so the long-term legacy of this year's cup tour should be there for years to come. This builds upon the logo that was creatd for the 2008 World Cup. Good long-term benefits.

In fairness that Rugby shop does sell a fair bit of League stuff and has had RLWC merchandise in the front window the last few times i've walked past. Every little helps.

I expect the advertising for the World Cup to pick up a pace now that the regular season is finished with.
