We're much better off in the north really.

Why don't they move then?He may be polemic but there is a degree of truth in what he says. People in the South East do work longer hours and commuting is crappy. The quality of life is terrible in that part of the world unless you happen to be a loaded jorno / editor that is.

Too many people in the south east have never been to "the norf" and have a very stereotyped view of what it is like and yet northern towns often do very well when there are surveys of the best places to live in the UK. They are to be pitied.

in the sarf, roads are packed with aggressive drivers, company cars, too may traffic jams, rude people, union fans....

Because it's grim

No, honestly, its far better in the south...I'm talking Surrey Hills, Guildford, Farnham, Godalming, Petersfield, ..yes it is really...overall, better weather, better pubs, smarter wimmin, higher pay, better jobs, better restaurants and so much more ...
Yeah but 95% of the South East is more like Upminster than Surrey Hills.

It bluddy isn't. The north is a far nicer place than the south east, thank God I escaped at age 6 months!
I like the south west though.

And that's before you get me started on what passes for beer (what I pass passes for beer more convincingly).

The M25 corridor is hell on earth. Each and every dreary town I've ever visited around there is far grimmer than anything in the north. They are all concrete covered wastelands, choking beneath a fog of perma-pollution.
And that's before you get me started on what passes for beer (what I pass passes for beer more convincingly).
If you ever get bored of the BI there's a sure to be an opening for you on the Lonely Planet as they update there UK book or in the Slough tourist information office!

We looked at moving to Slough once. I quite liked the place.

Another area where the South leads is the school run. It is far bigger, fare more congestive, far more inconsiderate and exceeds even the Alderley Edge version
This is probably true although in my village(*) most kids walk to school.
(* Officially (**) Britain's most desireable.)
(** By official, I mean Channel 5 says so.)

Half my family come from there, I was born there and I lived there for years (in more than one location) both in London and outside London.
If you to call that ignorance then be my guest.

But you escaped age 6 months? Are you Doctor Who?
I've lived in the southeast for more than a decade, commute every day, never been loaded and think my life is pretty damn fine.
I wouldn't presume to generalise about everyone down here based on my own or my friends' experiences only.

For once I'm going to agree with NS here. Life in the south east seemed to me to be bereft of any kind of community spirit or reaching out to other people. The cost of living is hideously expensive and I was surrounded by David Brent style ######s. Give me the north any day.

Like I say I've got loads of family in the South East and I visited it every year as a child and spent years living there. If you are living in one of the nicest villages in the home counties in commuting distance of London then you must be loaded because otherwise you could not afford it. House prices and rent are simply insane.
