Three men go into a shop and buy a radio for £21.00 . ie £7.00 Each. As they are leaving the shop assisstant realizes there was a five pound discount. She calls the men back and decides she will just give them £1.00 back each and keep the other £2.00 for herself (naughty). This means each man has only now spent £6.00 .
So 6 x 3 is £18.00.
The shop assisstant kept £2.00
That makes £20.00
The Question is WHERE HAS THE OTHER POUND GONE?????

It was never there. 21-5 =16, 16+3=19, 19+2=21

Total Paid = 18 (3 x 6)
Cost of Radio = 16 (21 - 5)
Difference = 2 (pocketed by Assistant)
Cost of Radio = 16 (21 - 5)
Difference = 2 (pocketed by Assistant)
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Total paid was £21.00 until the £5 discount. So Three Men £7 each Then £1 back each. So £6 is the cost to each man and £2 in The assisstants pocket = £20
Where is that pound

What if she gave them 50p instead of a pound. That would of made the cost to each man as £6.50. Total spend = £19.50.
So if there was £3.50 left out of the £5 discount. The total price would be £23.
