In order to provide extra publicity for the World Cup, I would like to raise a quiz team drawn from members of this forum to take on the Eggheads. The idea would be to have each team member represent one of the participating countries and wear appropriate national colours. When chatting to Dermot/Jeremy each team member would highlight one match that they will be attending, in my case being both Irish and English the Huddersfield match would be the one I would talk about. I am hoping if possible to be able to field a team that represents five different nations. The team name consequently will be The League of Nations. You do not have to be a citizen of the country that you wish to represent, so if you like going on holiday to France or your uncle emigrated to Australia or one of the teams is playing in your city, that will be good enough reason to represent them.

If you would like to be considered for selection for The League of Nations team, then complete your details as shown in the example below. Please be honest about your capabilities-it is better to say that you know nothing about Arts and Books, rather than embarrasing yourself on national TV as a self styled expert on something you have no clue about. I will select the team that will give the broadest range of subjects covered and nations represented. As a niche interest team rather than the standard pub quiz team, we would already stand a good chance of getting an invitation from the producers to appear on the show. This would be further enhanced by selecting team members who do not fit the quizzer stereotype of all being elderly white British men. It is also a help to have a warm personality and something interesting to say. I recently auditioned and recorded for The Chase-and all the contestants were primarily selected on their personality and smile, rather than their knowledge. The Chase producers loved my genuine story of being presented with an Oscar!

By putting youself forward for selection, you will need to agree to the following:
If selected to the team you will complete the application form honestly and in a timely manner,
You will make yourself available for audition, which you will travel to at your own expense. Obviously as we do not know where all the team members live, then it is hard to say which will be the most suitable city to attend an audition, possibles do include Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham. Also be aware that most auditions tend to take place on a week day rather than a weekend, so be prepared to take a day off work, if necessary.
If the team is invited onto the show, then the recording will take place in Glasgow. The BBC will arrange your travel and pay for all expenses including an overnight hotel stay, if necessary. Recording dates for the next series are every day from 25th February to the 9th March inclusive.
In the event of the team winning some money, the winnings will be equally shared between all the people agreeing to take part, including any team members who might be selected as reserve contestants.
Anyone appearing on the show will undertake not to divulge the outcome of the show, until it is transmitted.

If you are happy with all of the above and want to be considered, then complete a profile like this:

If you have no other offers, I'd be happy to appear on behalf of Wales. I'm a reasonable quiz player, having twice reached the singles final of the Airedale Quiz League. However, four people reach the final and, on both my appearances, Barry Simmons (Egghead member) won by a country mile.

Thanks to everyone who has replied on this forum for being brave enough to apply, and please check your personal messages. On paper there is the makings of a very good team, however it can be improved; the team as yet does not appear to have a member who is very comfortable with the Arts and Books category. I have a feeling that some France or Italy supporters would be able to help with this subject, as between them the two nations virtually defined culture. I will therefore leave applications open for everyone until the evening of Friday 4th January.

I was on the Chase if that helps!!!

I take it that you wish to apply, if so send me a completed profile so I can know your strengths and weaknesses. From your posts on the forum, I take it that you are a resident of Salford/Greater Manchester. If so, would you be happy to represent all the nations taking part and promoting all the matches taking place in the Greater Manchester area not just the World Cup Final?

Good luck guys.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

I hate to be a fly in the ointment but I know someone who was on Eggheads, in a team from the Top House pub, Odsal. While he could tell you definitively, I would guess it was around - if not at least - 10/12 months between the recording and airing of his episode.

Chances are it'd be too late.

edit: from a bit of digging, recorded 21st January 2011, broadcast 22nd February 2012.

There was a team on tonight's quiz (Eggheads) called the Saints and Sinner, made up of four solicitors from St Helens and one from Wigan. Didn't fair too well.
