Coinciding with the launch of the www.rlvarsity.com website, matchday and hospitality tickets have gone on sale for the 2013 Pcubed Rugby League Varsity Match.

The match, which is being played at the Honourable Artillery Company – or HAC – in the heart of the City of London on the afternoon of Friday 8th March, will be the 33rd time the light and dark blue teams have faced each other. Cambridge currently leads by a single victory, but Oxford has won five of the last six encounters and is looking to level the series. There has been a solitary draw.

Launching the website and ticket sales, Varsity Match organiser Mark Ramsdale encouraged people to buy early. “The decision was taken to try something new for this year’s Varsity Match, in terms of time and location. I am really pleased to say that interest has been great since we announced the date and venue, and we have pre-sold a number of tables and there were plenty of people and organisations waiting for the launch today to purchase their table.”

Matchday tickets are available at £12.50 online or £15 on the day and people are able to purchase discounted souvenir programmes to collect when they arrive at the ground.

The programme and matchday ticket are included in the hospitality package, which also includes a three course lunch before the game, with entertainment from a special guest speaker and silent auction of rugby league and other sporting memorabilia.

All details of the game, ticketing and venue are online at www.rlvarsity.com.

This for me used to be one of the highlights of the RL year, back in 2003 at Richmond (The first time the match was shown LIVE on SKY SPORTS) i had a really good feeling that the varsity match would start to really take off.

After several seasons at the stoop where the promotion was woeful this IMHO is a backward and desperate measure to try to get some interest back in the game, sadly SKY also have now given up on it.

It needs to be back in west london and promoted over a 5/6 month period with free tickets to all the schools, this was suggested a few years ago and welcomed however no-one seemed to be bothered to follow it thorough.

Believe Cambridge still don't award a blue for appearing for the RL side - anyone know if this is still true ?
