Now, now! Dave Tarry is no longer CEO of Salford, as you very well know! :D

     - would have been those paintings they keep using as security for loans from council. Trophy cabinet is a bit bare these days!

Why don't we get together and knock up a few paintings for the club to use as collateral? This modern stuff can't be too difficult, can it? ;)

New sponsor to be announced early next month, likely to be a betting company.

It will be a last minute ###### deal from a betting company in desperation dressed up by the RFL as the best thing since sliced bread.

How should they dress it up? A dead rat in the fridge?

Thats NW

I don't know what "NW" means. If it's "Not worthy" (ie of a response), you're right and I'm sorry. I was shooting from the hip. I should have resisted the temptation, but we often have this. The rfl have to say nice things about a sponsorship deal, don't they?

Canetman, if you hate RL so much stop watching it and please stop coming on here, you won't be missed by either people on this forum or the game in general.

I don't envy him his job. Who would you want to sponsor our game? If you rule out those companies peddling questionable wares, what's left?

Cigarette companies - No way!
Booze companies - Not in today's society!
Online gaming companies - Not for me!
Payday loan companies - Surely not!

What's left? Slim pickings. I wish the guy all the luck in the world. I think he'll need it.

A propos of nothing, I have been appalled by the TV advertising I've seen since returning to the UK. It is wall-to-wall dross. Online bingo! How many of these firms are there? Payday loans! One of them advertises an APR of over 4000% (that's four THOUSAND percent!). They make the credit card companies look positively benevolent! Please don't let's tie ourselves up with any of those.

The goverment shouldn't even allow those companies to advertise on television, how some of those celebrities who advertise them can sleep at night is beyond me

My source would not say(or did not know). Betfair put in a bid last year (reportedly £750pa) but the RFL choose Stobarts who offered no cash! Would Betfair come back again after been previously turned down? Also the company is reducing costs so would they take on a new big sponsorship. I think the other front runner is Betfred. HQ in the north and still taking on new sponsorships in horseracing and snooker. Of course it could be another betting company and also what amount of cash is involved. Will it match what Betfair offered last year and before that Engage paid £1mpa?

If its true that Betfair offered £750k p.a and then we had a deal with Stobarts was no cash but with some intangible benefits, then if you were looking as a company to sponsor RL, you wouldn't be looking at any more than £500k p.a?? I wouldn't as there is precedent for comparison. Canetman for all his perceived frustration/negativity may be about right.
The RFL can't play hard ball too much on the back of this, and may risk potential sponsors walking away. The sponsors know the game needs the cash. They won't have been oblivious to the Crusaders, Bradford and Salford stories of the last 12 months.

alternatively, the rfl have shown that they will go with a deal which has no cash if it is not right for them.
Personally I think it shows that the 750k wasnt enough from a betting company.
This may very well work in the RFLs favour if these companies genuinely want in.

I agree with you. Any idea which betting company is in the frame?

The Sponsorship deal deal this year has to be either the worst negotiated deal in History or a sign that Super League is struggling to be around.
How a Sport that is in the top 5 or even 10 sports in a country gets such a bad deal as National sponsor should have had heads rolling.

I have known companies that paid more than that for one team in the NRL 12 years ago, just to be a shirt sponsor.
