If Australian clubs took the WCC seriously, why would they play the game during their preseason where the players aren't fit yet and haven't gelled as a team yet, don't get me started on the ridiculous 24 hour trip to even play the game in a completely different climate, play the game during both the NRL and Super League seasons on Neutral territory then I might take it seriously, this isn't about England or Australia this is about the BEST player in the world which i take to mean the best all round FOOTBALLER 'the fact that he didn't even make the Super League team of the year or even win the Leeds player of the year awards backs up my statement that he isn't the best, a statement that the majority of English citizens on this forum have agreed on, as ive said about 5 times, if Tomkins won it especially last year I would have had no complaints because he was consistently tremendous Domestically and in the Four Nations, my problems is not with Kevin Sinfields nationality it's the fast that he isn't the best in the world, the best in the world wouldn't have a inconsistent regular season matched with a poor Cup final than decide to show up for 2 or 3 games at the end of the season, the best player in the world Consistently plays well week in week out and actually shows up to every big game he plays in, he doesn't have the quality of a Cronk or a Smith, watch Melbourne Storm games and it's a fact that any fan with common sense would agree on, hell if England do beat Australia in the World cup, im pretty sure guys like Burgess, Roby, Tomkins, Charnley, Hall and Graham will be the key components to the victory, not Sinfield considering he goes missing whenever he plays us.

I bet you wept like a baby the year Stacey Jones won it

Every few years the Poms get a result against the Aussies. The Aussies then blame the adjudicators. Thats sport, be sporting

Good luck to Kevin.
I have already posted my Congratulations at the start of the thread.
I think its probably a good thing in many ways that an Englishman has won it.
I am genuinely interested in who judges this award, are you not allowed to ask?

Cheers.

Considering I was about 7 years old when he won it in 2002, I couldn't accurately say if he was the best that year, I just know Kevin Sinfield was not this years best.

Nonsence !Sinfield wether in a winning or losing team is involved and behind just about every move leading to a score, and no way wingers should be considered for any such award either. You are showing your jealousy

Jealously of what, this is the award for the best player in the world, I take that to mean most consistent and most skillful over the year 2012, don't use the leadership excuse because Smith won lead his teams to everything there is to win this year, Kevin is not more consistent or skillful than a Tomkins, Cronk or a Smith, simple as that, this is not the bravest player of the year award nor it a award for whoes contributed most to the game for the past few years, i'm yet to here any good reason other than people just wanting Kevin to win because he is a good lad, this award isn't supposed to bee a popularity contest as the Chairman of the magazine that decided this award would have you believe.

This is the award for the best footballer award so yes ability should come into it, out of curiosity, what does Kevin Sinfield have that Cameron Smith, Cooper Cronk and a Tomkins don't have, I don't buy the leadership thing considering what Smith accomplished as a captain this year, this seams like a Popularity contest award to me, everyone likes Kevin so lets give him the award.

Last Time I checked this wasn't a life time achievement award, this was an award for the best player of 2012, I still don't get why some people hold the World Club Challenge in such a high regard either, the team I support won it in 2011 and I couldn't have cared less.

There have been many journos this weekend who have said its not for the best player, its for the one who's efforts in a full domestic and international season who has merited it.
but you and I weve been through that and this is not our fate.
So let us so let us not talk falsely now.

A golden Boot 2012!!!!

SInfield has played in many positions this year for Leeds (remember I support Warrington) this isn't an easy transition for some players, But Sinfield has done this game after game. 6,9 and 13. I think this is forgotten when people offer opinions!!!

This is a skill set some players will never have!!!

Smith is a wonderful player, plays in teams with WORLD SUPERSTARS this does make his job easier, but Smith still leads from the front..... Maybe this is another reason Sinfield won..... less Superstars around him!!!!!

Sinfield isn't hot head,He's a thinker, great hands, one of the best kicking games in the World and leads players around the park.

Yes England are craap, we may always be craap, but one thing Sinfield is a player of the highest calibre.

This is what it states on the organisers website:

The Rugby League World Golden Boot is awarded to the international player of the year and is decided by a panel made up of Rugby League journalists, broadcasters and former international players.

Talking of which, aside from the sour grapes, refusal to accept the panels decision and generally introspective and ill informed spouting on here can I for one congratulate and recognise League Publications Limited for promoting and sustaining this fantastic award and its accompanying ceremony

I have attended two events (I suspect two more than some of the pundits who have been denegrating the award from behind a desk in Sydney), Farrell and Minichellos years, and the turnout was indeed a glittering array of the worlds legends, past and present

To suggest the adjudication wasnt of a similar order is, Im afraid, small minded

Well done LPL (something I dont say every week) and may the Golden Boot continue to be awarded to the best contribution by any player throughout the game that year

Which wouldn't go to Sinfield as he was only oustanding towards 4 or 5 games of the latter part of the season not the full domestic season like you state.

If it was for effort in the full season then he shouldn't even come close. Tomkins had a much better and consistent season than Sir Kev.

Hasn;t this award always been marketed as the World Player of the Year? If so - why are people now using phrases like your last one?

TBH, if LPL feel that Sinfield is the best player in the world this year, just say so and allow people to discuss it. An issue I have with this is that people are playing politics with the wording of what this award is for - 'best contribution'??? Why is it no longer 'International Player of the Year' - which incidentally LPL still advertise it as?
