Despite the hyperbole it hasn't turned out to be a 9/11 or a 7/7.
Sad that there has been a couple of lives lost but can the media calm down a bit now, please.

Turned off 5 Live in disgust this morning as it was clear that Nicky Campbell was genuinely excited over this piece of news when talking to eye witnesses. This was when it was known that there were fatalities. With 24 hour news and social networks everyone goes off half cocked instead of waiting for official announcements from the emergency services.

1. Mayhem: The news services rush around in a fog of confusion trying to get information from the emergency services who are too busy to talk. They inevitably end up interviewing each other and seizing on any speculation they can get hold of.
2. Mastermind: All the networks wheel in an 'expert' usually a retired ex-pilot, copper, academic, whatever. He or she makes uninformed comment until the facts start to emerge.
3. Manhunt: What went wrong? More importantly, WHO IS TO BLAME?
4. Memoriam: Nobody will ever be allowed to forget this happened until something worse occurs.

That's about it. I think we are at about stage 3. Major news outlets trying to hide their disappointment that it wasn't a terrorist attack.

Bradford College is having a large extension built and there are two tower cranes on site. At about 2am this morning, both had their jibs raised and neither had a flashing light working. Good job it wasn't a foggy night.
