MELBOURNE Storm were born to blaze a trail, but the champion club will take their mission to new heights should Cade Umaga make his NRL debut next season.
Poaching the son of All-Blacks great Tana Umaga two years ago was a bold enough statement, given the teenager had always dreamed of following his father's footsteps.
And with Cade now halfway through his second NYC pre-season, the ultimate exclamation mark awaits.
Unlike his father, whose rugby league career was abruptly abbreviated by homesickness, the 19-year-old second-rower has settled into Australian life and showed real promise following the completion of last year's under-20s competition.
It's been a remarkable transition for Cade, who was scouted by late Storm recruitment man Dean Bell in his first serious game of schoolboy league for Wellington.

Good to see the Kiwis are moving to League slowly but surely.
