Not of interest to all on here, but a few years ago, despite protests and a petition, the wonderful food court and Far Eastern shopping centre 'Oriental City' in Colindale (North London) was closed down, to make way for a B&Q.

That development fell through, so a perfectly servicable building lay empty, mourned by many, as it was an unofficial community centre as much as a food and retail operation. Shabby, yes, but laid-back and fun, full of interesting little shops and eatieries.

But it looks like it will return, bigger and better than ever. :) :) :) :) :)
"Journalists are meant to be neutral, for God's sake." - Stephen 'Wiggy' Jones

"Perhaps it would be better that future criticism of sports be made on the narrow basis of what is being discussed, without reference to other sports, unless those sports offer a solution to the problem in hand." - Brian 'Pigface' Moore

"What happens in rugby union? A player takes the ball, moves forward a little and gets tackled. A whole load of players then roll about on the ground. Pheep! The referee gives a penalty." - Simon Barnes

lucky you

China Town in Leeds used to extend from the bottom of vicar lane beyond and including the famous/notorious Jumbo restaurant. Lots of little supermarkets, and a cluster of businesses including food stores housed in a formewr office building. That shut down and now there are fewer food shops the main one of which is a largish chinese/generic far east super market. You could roam around the area for ages, now you can't.

the moribund Eastgate scheme has cauterized a once interesting part of Leeds.
