I know little about the game below the NRL and nothing below Toyota Cup.

Is there an amateur system below that? With leagues etc?

Yes it is extensive and somewhat complicated (they've recently hired someone to research/recommend how to restructure all levels below the NRL so there is a proper pyramid) so you'd be best going to somepace like www.leaguenet.com.au or www.playrugbyleague.com to get an idea of what's out there.

Many leagues run their own webpages ie: www.goldcoastjuniorrugbyleague.com.au (Gold Coast JRL) and www.stingers.net.au (Brisbane JRL)

I think the largest comp in Australia is the Brisbane second div.

NRL
Holden Cup U20s (NYC)
QLD Cup & NSW CUP
Ron Massey Cup (Country RL)
Other State Leagues & FOGS Cup (Brisbane A Grade), Sydney,Newcastle RL etc. ]
Other/majority Local Agrade

Some in "amateur" agrade can probably get more $ than QCup though
