Foreign rugby raiders are once again circling the NRL's elite ranks - and the ambush is set to begin with Newcastle Knights flyer Aku Uate.
The NSW Origin excitement machine is among a host of representative players off contract this year; joining Johnathan Thurston, Jarryd Hayne, Robbie Farah, Mitchell Pearce, Jamie Lyon, Matt Scott and Todd Carney on a star-studded list.
Having grown up playing rugby in Fiji and as a schoolboy on the Central Coast, Uate was offered big money from ACT Brumbies and NSW Waratahs to switch back when he was last available, three years ago.
But Japanese and European franchises have since expanded their outlooks, and rugby union sources have confirmed Uate will be in their sights over the coming months.

He should go and take his chances, It would free up another winger for SOO that was not so hot and cold.
I doubt he would not last one year in Japan.

I thought that posts from both Leagues were being allowed here, it seemed a bit slow so I thought I would add some threads,
Could one of the Mods let me know? if it goes in the NRL thread I won't bother posting it as nobody looks there much from what I can see.

Japan and china is a huge market for the NRL, something to consider.

NRL Pre-season trial matches should be held in places like china, Japan, US and potential expansion cities like Wellington, Christchurch, Perth, Adelaide etc. and in the NSW and Queensland country.

From what I see australia is owned and full up with Japanese - surely they could afford to pay for one or two dev officers and exchange a few school/student games. Get some Jap TV execs to a state or origin game...that should do the trick !

Unlikely, as the top teams in Japan are owned by large corporations like Mitsubishi. That's how they could pay players so much in the shamateur days - they were counted as company employees who just happened to turn out for the works team.
