Are you looking at the serviced apartments up there?

The ground isn't far from the city centre and the tram should be up and running by the time the games happen. They are currently testing it. There is also a bus service which was cheap last year.

Stay in the valleys and get the local train in. You'll be extremely lucky to find anything 'cheap'..

Try the travelodges, from £20 on Friday to £61 Saturday for saver room rate (non refudable) in Manchester City centre, may get them cheaper in the satelite towns, for instance there's one on the M60 at Chadderton, Oldham with regular buses from the other side of the road that go pretty near the ground

Try the low Manchester postcodes

M1 is the postcode near to Piccadilly Station
M3 is Salford but will count the premier/travel inn on Blackfriars Street off Deansgate.

Not sure where you are now but for the World Cup:
Prices in Cardiff for the GF were stupid when it was held there.
Because of the central location of the ground it's very easy to travel in.

We stayed very cheaply in Bristol and travelled in by train. The rail company anticipated this ( yes, really! ) and had stewards out and signs etc.

Will be doing the same in the Autumn.

I thought the valleys were a bit of a trek to Manchester!
