Just to check.....

In 1895 there were two NU teams in the city Manningham NU at Valley Parade and Bradford NU at Park Avenue.

Then in 1903 Manningham stopped playing rugby and switched to soccer and became Bradford City FC.

Then in 1907 Bradford stopped playing rugby and switched to soccer and became Bradford Park Avenue FC.

And some folk carried on with the rugby and called their club Bradford Northern, playing at Birch Lane then Odsal.

I always though Holbeck NU became Leeds City FC who begot Leeds United FC, but that was not the case apparently.

Leeds United, legally at least, had no connection with Leeds City.

Leeds United, legally at least, had no connection with Leeds City.

Yeah. Leeds City certainly inherited Elland Road when the rugby club went bust/just packed in, but there was no connection with Holbeck in terms of personnel it seems.

Years later Leeds City had all their players auctioned off by the FA, but Leeds United obviously stepped into the void pretty quickly, so perhaps.......same rogues, different name?

Which suggests a clear unbroken line since 1863, in the same way that we can rightly claim rugby heritage before 1895 (interestingly that vote was also about 2 to 1 although the anti-broken time RFU allowed all Oxbridge colleges to vote

I remember that when Northern went bust in 1963, they came back as a new company Bradford Northern ( 1964 ) Ltd but I am happy to have the lineage date back to the 1860's.

The Leeds City types were involved with a Hunslet soccer club who were turfed off Parkside to make way for Hunslet's reserves. Something lik ethat anyway. This'll tell you http://prism.talis.c...y=green%2C+mike

Its also said to be the reason the club with 4 munich clocks are called SCUM.Leeds city were developing quite a good side prior to wwI.Yes they did do payments to guest players just like other clubs did and mainly man utd,but to protect the players who guested leeds refused to open their books Charlie Buchan was one of them .All clubs were guilty ,but the most guilty club got away with it again.Scum

What there is, is a direct line of people back to 1863. Players have come and gone, the ground has been changed and companies have gone bust but the line of people, either as players, administrators or fans is intact and the history of the game in the city is traceable.

in that case leeds can trace there routes at least as far back by including the likes of kirkstall and leeds athletic . but of course as an actual club that would be no more the case than it would be for bradford

Yes, I very much suscribe to that train of thought. I was just replying to the question if the present club was the same company that was formed when they broke away from Bradford FC.

Just for clarification (to Bradford fans), mine was a genuine question and not a conduit into allowing fans of other clubs to reignite that tedious debate about how-old-is-your-club. Much less was the intention to see some dreary LUFC/MUFC nonsense.
