A good young centre or just a young centre?

Not seen a lot of him to be honest as mainly played u20s last year. Not quiet ready for Superleague but looked ok in u20s.Best youngsters are Tom Gilmore,Gerrard,Owens, and Craven.Lawton suppose to be good but been injured a lot last few years.

Widnes forums are spreading the rumour that both Kavanagh and Davies are playing for Town this weekend - and they are not too pleased! They must be good.

Confirmed in the T & S that Kavanagh, Davies and Hulme are playing for Town this weekend. Nice comment by Gary Charlton about how he views the DR relationship with Widnes.

Ben Kavanagh is a 24 year old Prop Forward - 188cm tall, weighing 111kg. He joined Widnes from Wigan’s Academy initially on loan but soon became a permanent addition to the squad. Made his debut in 2008.Missed a lot of the 2012 season after rupturing an Achilles tendon in round three, but played in the last three matches of the season. Record generally speaks of consistent performances and high fitness levels.
Ben Davies is a 23 year old Prop Forward, 185cm tall and weighing 103kgs. Started at Leigh East ARLFC and then worked his way through the junior ranks at Wigan. Represented England at under-15 and 18 levels. Was initially Dual Registered at Widnes in 2010, making five senior appearances for Wigan also at this time. In 2011 was loaned out to both Barrow and Castleford before signing fully for Widnes when they joined the Super League.
Declan Hulme is a Centre aged 20, 180cm tall and weighing 90kgs. Started with Burtonwood Bulldogs and Bold Miners, he then joined Widnes at the age of 17. He is a bright lad studying (alongside his rugby career) Sport and Exercise Science at Edge Hill University. Known as a strong player in both defence and attack. Was part of the England under 18 squad. A young player with a real future.

Why are there so many mysteries about who we might see playing where for our team? Why can't we go back to days gone by when teams were announced a couple of days before the matches?

I remember when .............................

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimension, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave Hadfield - Independent 25th August 1996.

If fit you'd think Lupton , Coyle , Callum and Olstrum in the middle with Forber offering utility off the bench but yep who knows !

Well corrected. Just read the T & S article again, and to quote Gary Charlton: “Widnes have been good enough to help us out and we have got three good players available for Sunday,” ……. “But it’s an agreement that has got to benefit Workington, the team and the players, not Widnes. “We will take everything into account before deciding on which players we will take, and that includes the opposition, Town players with knocks, and those needing a rest. But we will be giving all out lads a fair chance and, I repeat, any players coming to play for us have got to suit Town.”
It is not therefore a given that all three will be in the team, especially as Keith T rightly says, the Widnes site only states that Declan will make his debut for Town and fails to mention the two Props.
It is interesting to note that the only other players available and fit (to the best of my knowledge) to play for us under the DR banner this week would have been: Owens – FB; Gore – SO, SH Gilmore – SH; Lawton – P.

Like Keith, I much prefer to know initial squads for games two days before the match.

They have named 7 dual registered players which seems pointless really as 2 of them will have to be dropped from the 17, so they are playing a full complement of 5 DR players.
