Kate Hardcastle on Woman's Hour, BBC Radio 4, tomorrow (Friday 1st Feb) talking about women in sport and rugby league.

The new Super League season is kicking off, but only one top flight rugby league club has a woman on its board of directors. Award winning business woman and entrepreneur Kate Hardcastle joined the board of the Bradford Bulls in January. She's a lifelong fan of the club, watching them for the first time aged just two years old, and she's the first female director they've employed in the their history.

I would guess (only a guess) that RL has the highest % of female supporters of any MALE team sport. That would be worth a mention as well as what goes on in the boardroom.

Also, I think I heard the presenter (Jenni Murray) mention something about her son having been involved with RL in the past.

"My son was in the (Saints) youth squad till a knee injury stopped his rugby career. Shame!"

I heard this.

A positive approach from Jenni Murray, who as posters above have indicated, actually knows something about the sport and said that this weekend is the start of Superleague..... As well as Bradford she referred to the positive steps at Salford.

I thought Kate Hardcastle came over pretty well and was enthusiastic and realistic. Good PR for Bradford.

There was also reference to the lack of women on boards and to women's rugby league; Hardcastle was said to be the only female board member in the league.

A pretty damn positive feature. Having someone who has actually watched RL doing the interview made a difference I reckon.............

For those who may not know, the forums own Mistress Marlow is currently studying for a PHD on the subject of women in rugby league. She has also been on the radio to talk about it, but it was on Radio Humberside, not national (yet).

Good item. Kate Hardcastle came over as very sound. Looks good for Bradford if she's and indication of what they've got on their new board. Very sensible, get through this season and build up the club over the next few years, don't expect too much too soon. You don't build a good business overnight.

A real indication form the whole article how important it is to expose more people to the game. Jenni Murray was able to hold a good conversation because she was familiar with the sport, compare that to Soccer AM and Ryan Hall last week "Ever been to Old Trafford Ryan?".

So that's Woman's Hour, Evening Standard, Daily Telegraph...not a shabby start to the new season.
