Is it possible to play for both representative sides or are players made to choose between one or the other?

No reason why they cant play 4 both if selected.

is it true that a new ruling brought in that when a player has played 13 games he can no longer represent his country?
if it is true players would be reluctant to play in this country because they would save their games for the away tours,
some players may retire early when they no they can no longer achieve international honours
why do we constantly try to fix things that are not broke

Every English Lion will be getting one actual cap and they have been allocated an individual number ( like cricket ) . Not sure if that goes on the cap or not yet - hopefully it does.
The enforced retirement rule of 13 tests is pretty hard to achieve , but at the same time frees up spots for new blood. 13 waspicked as a number close to RL hearts. And those ' retired ' will belong to a club of legends.........Jordan Precious for instance is a name that springs to mind

Steve Critcheson is a amateur legend but will probably never get the recognition he deserves.Every English Lion will be getting one actual cap and they have been allocated an individual number ( like cricket ) . Not sure if that goes on the cap or not yet - hopefully it does.

Also up there with Jordan Precious & Sean Wildbore with the most international caps is Tony Baker (Ince Rose Bridge). Think they are all around the 26-27 caps. Great achievement from these boys.

I think it's fair to allow the opportunity for "young blood" - or at least "new blood" to come in. Once you get to be a regular in open age representative teams you tend to be picked every year - for ever it seems! I've always thought that, for example, last year's Under-18/19/21 stand off/scrum half/hooker or whatever, shouldn't just drop out of the representative scene, but should be looked at for the open age squads. Otherwise, they'll never get in because of "regulars" who (although certainly good enough) stay in there for years!defo applys to english lions dont know about barla, friendlys dont count just test matches and a whole tour counts as one cap

IMO you play the best available regardless, probably the coaching staff that needs to be changed more frequent.

Got to play the best players for the job, regardless if they have played rep rugby b4. Like marauder said... Maybe if the coaches were changed every few years then tht would freshen up selections jus by a new coach a new outlook.

Ian Rooney from Wath Brow is the new Head Coach for the English Lions Richard Owen from St Pats and Colin Brown from Skirlaugh are his assistants. The appointment is for two years. Fuller details on the RFL website ( came out on 7th Jan ).

I understand the BARLA team manager made players choose between them & Community Lions ?

Why would he do that? I don't even think they have played/toured at the same time up to press.I understand the BARLA team manager made players choose between them & Community Lions ?

I was told any lads picked in both squads had to make the mind up by Friday, lions were ok but BARLA told the lads to decide which squad they wanted to be in ? Be interested to see who stayed & who didn't ?

Will be even more interesting if the RFL pull the funding from the community lions.

It seems they are withdrawing funding from all over, it has been withdrawn at Doncaster RLFC and over the last few years they have been into every school in the district coaching, thats a lot of schools thats going to be turned back over completely to Union. They might pull some of it with the cut backs ?
