The key issue now is how fragrant is the former Mrs Huhne.

None of whom perjured themselves and then brazenly said they'd "use the sword of truth" to destroy their accusers. They thought they'd get away with it because others, including Mark Thatcher had got away with corrupt practices in the past. The late Alistair Milne lost his job as DG of the Beeb due allegedly to witnesses in a libel trial being leant on by senior Tories. Labour may have done it and got caught, the Tories are past masters at manipulation and of course the old boy network can be used to cover a multitude of sins.

T Dan Smith stated that he wasn't surprised at the corruption of members of all parties at local gov't level but that he was genuinely shocked at how cheaply they could be bought. The leader of one council planning committee nodded through a multi million pound develpment after he was promised a new bathroom.

Cannot see how they can get a jury for this now given the media coverage that any potential jurers will have been exposed to.

Other mistrials have greater coverage and get a fair second or third go.
Her fragranceness has clearly got to you as well.

Can a juror come to a verdict based on a reason that was not presented in court and has no facts or evidence to support it either from the prosecution or defence?

yes: see http://en.wikipedia....ginald_Maudling In 1966, he had obtained a directorship in the company of John Poulson, an architect Maudling helped obtain lucrative contracts. Poulson routinely did business through bribery and in 1972 was made bankrupt. The bankruptcy hearings disclosed his bribe payments, and Maudling's connection became public knowledge. Maudling came to the decision that his responsibility for the Metropolitan Police, which was beginning fraud investigations into Poulson, made his position as Home Secretary untenable. He resigned on 18 July, to general sympathy from the press.I don't doubt it for a minute, and wasn't Reginald maudling involved with poulson?

There you go again. For the record having got away with it after perjuring himself Archer couldn't leave it alone and wanted to stand for mayor of London - and someone put a stop to him. As for (sword of truth) Aitken he got his daughter to lie for him. How despicable can you get?no they did other things instead

According to the Daily Mail the reason the jury were so apparenlty stupid was that only two of them were white - the rest were either black or Asian, plus of course none of them were wearing collars and ties. As the Mail is fond of saying "you couldn't make it up"After reading this, one can only hope never find yourself wrongly charged and innoncently infront of 12 clueless feckwits dragged in off the streets!
