surely the headline has to be "nrl reaches new high"!Paying that amount a money, they must be on drugs down under!!
Predictions for the future -
Crusaders RL to get a franchise for 2012 onwards -WRONG
Widnes Vikings also to get a franchise - RIGHT
Crusaders RL to do the double over Widnes and finish five places ahead of them -WRONG
Widnes Vikings NOT to dominate rugby league in years to come! STILL TO COME

I promise to pay 10 to the charity of Bomb Jacks choice if Widnes Millionaires finish above the battling underdogs Crusaders RL. I OWE A TENNER!

What are the salary caps in Super Rugby, Aviva Premiership, Magners' League and French Rugby?
A commentary team referred recently to a French rugby union club with a salary "cap" of around 20 million Euros. Ireland's fly-half, Jonathan Sexton, is rumoured to have been offered a contract with Paris-based club, Racing Metro worth around 750 000 Euros per year.
In other words, the likes of SBW will continue to be able to earn an awful lot more while playing rugby union in France or Japan.

If there is one thing the NRL has learnt the hard way, you don't go into expansion areas with a crocked team, you have to hit the ground running especially in a new area. You can get away with it a bit more if you are starting up a new club in heartland areas.
After the last 20 years in Australian RL, I don't think the new mob will be rushing into anything, but when they do give the go ahead to expand, you can bet the teams will be top notch.

Just to be clear, the French Top 14 salary cap is €9.5 (£8.12m) and the RFU Premiership cap is £4.26m, although there are credits that can increase this. The Pro12 does not have any cap, although the four Welsh regions have agreed to a voluntary cap of £3.5m for their 38-man registered squads for ERC competitions.
To compare, AUD 7m is about £4.5m
The cap covers the NRL squads of 25 players

I wonder if all the fuss about the new NRL salary cap is a bit overblown. I think English RL players are likely to go and play there, but actually the cap is still pretty small in a global context. I'm not sure we are going to see massive swathes of antipodean RU players going to play RL when they can still earn huge amounts in French rugby.
The Aus S15 clubs recently lowered their salary cap... Union is in dire straits in Australia and you can bet your house that there will be a number of S15 players who come across.
