So what can the RFL do to make the Championship divisions worth paying good money to go watch instead of them feeling like friendlies.

Maybe some kind of league system?

Perhaps a prize for finishing top?

Why would they feel like friendlies when the top four are breaking their necks for the massive prize that is superleague, and the bottom 10 are trying to avoid relegation and near certain death.

Why wouldn't the top four aim to anihilate the DR demons and the 10 team relegation dog fight be just that - four pointers all round the the increased corwds that relgation battles (apparently) create????

Friendlies? I think the RFL/SLE may have livened it up.

How many players did Widnes take into Super League?Players will break their necks for winning pay thats all and the spectators are left with the same year on year even if their team goes unbeaten.

How about most of the above (league sytstem, prize money etc) combined with a system where for each fixture, both clubs pick a team based upon the best players that they have signed and are fit, rather than a team that is partially based upon the availability of a different clubs fringe squad members?

That's a fair comment. Ideally, supporters of a club that's had a poor season would think, "well, we had a poor season last year but this year's going to be better". In fact they probably feel "well, we had a poor season last year but this year's going to be even worse".

I don't know - any attempt to even up the competition often falls foul of UK or EC law.

DR won't even the competition up - that's for sure. It depends too much on who you're linked with and what crumbs they have to throw at you in any particular week.

Revoke the season tickets of / deny entry to the vocal, whining minority of Kingstone Press Championships supporters, and seek to replace them with a younger audience.
Astute analysis from a Wigan fan:

Rumour going around Headingley that Wire will have to play the second half with 12 men.

It seems that they forgot to bring the half time oranges, and Solomona ate Chris Bridge instead.

Don't know why he was hungry, as he looked as though he had eaten the whole youth team before the game started.

To see a team finish 5th after a full season and still be in with a shout of being Champions.

May be we could use the challenge cup as a bit of an insentive. Maybe we could give the top four maybe six teams a bye in first rounds of the challenge cup and have them entering in the last 32 round along with the super league clubs .

In terms of crowds you're always gonna struggle with attendances the lower you go down the pyramid. Championships are always gonna struggle to increase on their attendances while it's impossible to get promoted.......that doesn't mean that teams at the lower end of CH1 can't grow to a similar commercial standard to FEV, FAX or LEIGH.

In terms of games feeling like friendlies i don't think they do at all......i would have thought that was more of a problem in super league

Come on Parky keep up, it's 3 points for a win, 2 poi ts for a draw and 1 point for losing by 12 or less, making them 6 point matches!!

I remember when .............................

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimesion, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave hadfield - Independent 25th Augsut 1996.

Championships are always gonna struggle to increase on their attendances while it's impossible to get promoted. That has been comprehensively disproved on here many times.

Where?

In the history of licensing, one team has been elevated. Promotion is something else entirely, it is won on the field of play, not in the boardroom.

The issue of spectators levels at clubs in the Championship has been done to death on here..again and again and again and again.

But still a worthy issue to scrutinise during 2013 I would have thought, with dual reg and entire squad registrations throughout the championship.
