Nothing confirmed yet though. If true it may, hopefully, pave the way for a reconciliation of the game in the States. I'd be surprised if Niu forfeited his day in the sun at the WC though.

True enough. It stems from his twitter bio
"Spent many years chasing and promoting a rugby ball. Soon to announce that I will be working with ball of a different kind. Stay tuned!"
Make of that what you may!

I would not be surprised if he attempts to continue in both roles so that he can go to the WC.

From Wikipedia:
In February 2013, Nui resigned from the AMNRL in order to become president of the AFL Global, an organisation looking to introduce and launch professional Arena Football teams and franchises in various locations throughout the world (a la NFL Europe).[16]

AFL eh? Global eh? That name'll annoy the Aussie Rules lot.

League Unlimited seems convinced that advanced talks on a merger are happening as we speak. with niu out of the picture this would be a great boost before the world cup

It would be nice if at least one of Rugby League's ongoing schisms was consigned to history, and it would be great for the strength of the USA RWC squad.
