Richard Agar has been confirmed as the new France coach for the 2013 RLWC. Not sure if that's a good or bad appointment ?

He seems to be doing ok at Wakefield, though it isn't the most inspiring appointment. Best of luck to him though, I hope he can improve them and get them to be more competitive.
"surely they've got to try somthing different now, maybe the little chip over the top?2

I've never understood why Agar has such a bad reputation as a coach. At Hull IMO the squad got as far as it could, it didn't have enough strength or depth to compete with the top 4. I'll admit Hull had one very poor season but they recovered. They were defensively very sound but lacked the players to change a game. Peter Gentle did no better than Agar despite signing some quality players. Now they've signed some even more quality players so they're obviously going to do better.

Now he's at Wakefield he's doing a terrific job. He built a team from nothing but when they got it together towards the end of the season they looked a top 6 team. Am I right in saying in the last 11 SL games he's coached Wakefield have only lost 2?

He brought Wakefield over to Perpignan pre-season last year. He is a fan of Catalans and their involvement in SL. The papers here have reported that he has shown interest in the Dragons post in the past. Rumeur that Guisset and Donlan may be involved too. Nothing on the Federation website presently. Agar was expected in Toulouse today for press conference I understand.

France aren't going to win the world cup. They should have picked a French coach with some current or ex SL/NRL heavyweight providing additional expertise nearer the time of the competition. The French coach could have worked with them during team building exercises, done some PR and coached them against some low level international teams. I can't see how this will help the French in the longer term.

Can he speak French?
errr.........is it scaramanga?

I think Agar is proving to be a good coach, the evidence suggests so anyway.

I don't think it's a good appointment though. As he's a good coach, they'll be organised and managed well, but it's an appointment which doesn't allow the National team to forge it's own identity, it's own style based upon a culture, a French culture.

It should have been given to a Frenchman.

There have been times I've heard him without being sure he's speaking English.

Still, say what you like about him, the man must give a cracking interview.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

If it all starts to come together for him and France can we say Agar has gelled?

He wasn't that good either. One dimensional team with no plan B.

Not sure what I think of this. Want him to do well, because I'm a Wakey fan and love to see France do well (so long as they don't actually beat England).

Just can't warm to him though, even though we made the play-offs and have looked solid so far this season apart from the shocker at Bradford.

Hope he does well.

If you don't follow @SirRichardAgar on Twitter you should!! He's already set out his plans for the new job. :D
