I have just watched a piece on Sky Sports news of about 5 minutes in length on Rugby League. They highlighted the RLIF ban on shoulder charges in time for the World Club championship game and had interviews with Widdop and Maguire as players and the two head coaches.

The piece then morphed into a piece on the Bradley Wiggins promo and said that the boxer Pryce was a fan and had been to a Warrington training session and had an interview with him in which he claimed the game was too hard for him and he would never step onto a RL field and he reiterated his love of the game and his admiration for the toughness, athleticism and skills of the players.

A very positive segment and, hopefully, a sign of things to come in Skys promotion and coverage of our game.

they have now..

no shoulder charge for the WCC on Friday (nice bit of warning for the Leeds players, 4 days), and for the world cup.

Assume also for any international games played elsewhere in the world prior to the world cup, but no mention of that on the SSN ticker.

Edit. maybe its not been confirmed, as i've just looked online and can't see any confirmation. SSN ticker definitely suggested it was gonna happen before Fridays game.

According to Mcdermot it was done in relation to a couple of recent incidents over here and they showed video footage of the Bousquet/Fages incident, which I though was more a late hit than anything, and his take on it was that it was not used a lot and, given these chances of serious injury when it went wrong, it was best to ban it.

Does a shoulder charge by the attacker carrying the ball count as a "shoulder charge"? Many players dip their shoulder down to take the brunt of a collision in a tackle and it can cause same sort of damage to the tackler. I suppose that's accidental!!!!

I remember when .............................

"It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimension, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave Hadfield - Independent 25th August 1996.

i suppose technically the shoulder isn't banned but the definition of a legitimate tackle is re-defined. The rules for the ball carrier is a separate issue

SSN talking about banning the shoulder charge and they show a clip of the Saints v Widnes punch-up where Ben Cross swings the arm on Wellens.. which obviously isn't a shoulder charge and will still happen as regularly as it does now..

What a ridicolous way to ban the shoulder charge if true. RLIF is basically defunct in all but name, may as well call it ARL. As for the RFL, they need to man up ........ unless this isn't true in which case I take it back!
