Hi There,

Just thought i would post this as i think its a credit to the Catalan Dragons that they have been able to absorb a 30% loss in SKY monies since they came into SL in 2006 something that no-one has ever mentioned on here.

In January 2006 the exchange rate pound to euro was around 1.45 to the pound and 1.50 in January 2007 the club set its budgets on an exchange rate never falling below 1.35 and yet low and behold here we are now with a rate of between 1.10 to 1.15.

Thats a huge loss of revenue as lets be honest no-one could have forecast the euro at this rate (Real value is around 1.65 to the pound.

Whilst other clubs have been screaming for extra dosh from SKY the Dragons have been silent.

The revenue generated by Sky from French subscribers to pay to Cats will be in Euro's though?

All payments from SL to the dragons are made in pounds and converted at the daily bank rate when the monies hit their account every month, there are no french sky subscribers.CM

NO ZIP all BEIN do is pay the production costs which 3 years ago were even paid for by the french federation and before that by an independent donor for 3 years.cm

Thats a shame. Could the Dragons set up a bank account in Britain or would that be illegal?

Do they save with differing tax laws? I thought something tax related was a key element in Pryce's signing.

They still would have to pay their bills in euros so it would be pointless,i just thought i would post this as i keep in touch with a former CEO (Aussie) on a social basis and he mentioned it to me the other night that he thought the club had coped well with this problem by increasing other revenue streams and i agreed.CM

French taxes are complicated and high however the club do benefit from monies from the municipal (Council to the likes of you and me:) and the region (County council sort off) One other benefit is that if a player is injured the state pay the salary IN FULL:)))CM

So the French don't contribute to the funding Cats get from Sky, relying on poor old English championship RL fans to pay for them whilst being forced to play for nowt on cold Thursday nights. That cant be right...............

Whilst i can see part of your argument the reality is that SKY are happy with this and the Dragons bring much to the SL table, its a shame that this is not reflected in the RFLs ability to obtain sponsors with a wider european/international element.Sky made a decision to not continue with the championship with the latest TV contract that is their commercial right and has nothing to so with the Dragons the same as its everyones right not to subscribe if they wishCM

It was a tongue in cheek post, I would love 2 French clubs in an expanded 2 division full time SL structure - essential for the game to grow at international level. Then 4 in a 12/12 structure. It would be brilliant if one day France has the income to support its own SL, until then I am happy to finance it with my £60 a month.

As I recall the decision was made by two Scotsmen on everyone else's behalf- one of the few decisions they got right!

Where's the 30% loss?
